While a durable aluminum awning can certainly withstand a little impact, the safest bet is to remove the threat altogether.

If you find that icicles are forming along the edge of your aluminum awning, you can carefully remove them with an ice scraper or a sturdy-bristled brush, though they will not have much impact on the awning itself. Be cautious when doing this, as heavy icicles can cause injury!
